Our Story

Maggie at the grand opening of Maggie's Place with a balloon banner

Founded from a dream years in the making, Maggie’s Place was created in 2021 to provide meaningful employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities while building a community rooted in acceptance, inclusion, and purpose. Inspired by their 25-year-old daughter Maggie, who has Down Syndrome, Chuck and Virginia Fischer envisioned a workplace where people of all abilities could feel valued, empowered, and supported.

After sharing their vision with Dave and Tracey Beemer, the mission quickly became a shared passion. The Beemer family stepped forward to help bring the vision to life, partnering with the Fischers to create a cafe centered on dignity, opportunity, and love.

During the cafe’s development and early years, Maggie’s Place partnered with the Be Cafes, a series of West Michigan coffee shops founded on a similar mission of providing employment based on belonging and inclusion. In 2026, Maggie’s Place became independently run by its Board of Directors and remains focused on providing meaningful employment to the important individuals employed at “Maggie’s”.

Maggie’s Place is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, so every purchase made directly supports our mission of creating meaningful employment and inclusive opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Every cup of coffee makes a real difference.
